SING & PLAY SHOWSTOPPERS
Thank you for your interest in Sing & Play Showstoppers, formerly Pearland Community Kids’ Choir. We are a children’s show choir for boys and girls ages 8-12. The choir was started in August 2000 by Lisa Arriaga, the owner/director of Sing & Play.
Director: The director of the Showstoppers is Theresa Diaz. Ms. Theresa is an experienced vocalist and dance instructor. She is a professional choreographer who has worked extensively with high school choir departments and community theatre groups.
Requirements for participation: Members of Showstoppers must: 1) be a boy or girl between the ages of 8-12 (We occasionally accept seven-year-olds who have good reading skills and a good attention span); 2) Have a love for singing, a great attitude, and good behavior during rehearsals and performances; 3) Attend rehearsals and performances regularly; 4) Be committed to the choir for the whole performing season (the entire school year). Auditions are not required, but the director may wish to hear a child sing alone to determine vocal ability and range.
Tuition and fees: There is a registration fee of $75.00 due upon enrollment that pays for the two uniform shirts, plus music and materials for the entire year. Tuition is $164.00 per semester and must be paid in full by September 1 for the fall semester, and by January 1 for the spring semester. There are four options for paying tuition at the beginning of the semester: 1) Cash for the full amount (Please be sure to get a receipt from the studio); 2) A check for the full amount; 3) Four postdated checks for $41.00 each semester dated Sept. 1, Oct. 1, Nov. 1, and Dec. 1 for the fall semester; and Jan. 1, Feb. 1, Mar. 1, and Apr. 1 for the spring semester; and 4) Credit card payment for the full amount. Returned checks will have a $15.00 fee added.
Rehearsals and performances: The group rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at Sing & Play Fine Arts Studio. It is important that members attend all rehearsals with the exception of illness or emergency. It is difficult to be well prepared for performances if all members are not present at rehearsals. Our rehearsal schedule follows the Pearland ISD school calendar. We perform an average of 3-4 times per semester. Our performances are generally on weekends or Monday evenings. We have performed at school carnivals, nursing and residential facilities, in the Pearland Christmas Parade, at intermission in a performance of The Nutcracker, at Pearland sporting events, at the Children’s Museum of Houston, at the Pearland Special Olympics Banquet, and in the studio Christmas and Spring Recitals.
Dress: Showstoppers should wear casual, comfortable clothes to rehearsals. Please make sure that your child wears tennis shoes with closed heels and toes and no platforms to rehearse in. We do extensive choreography in our performances, and platform or high-heeled shoes and flip-flops can be hazardous for dancing. We have two performance shirts which are provided with your registration fee. We will notify the parents which shirt should be worn at each performance.
